What is the Mobility project?

Over 3,000 of our frontline officers have already received mobility devices - otherwise known as smartphones - which allow them to do more when they are on the go, reducing the need for them to repeatedly return to the station.

The mobiles provide operational police officers with easily accessible, timely, relevant and accurate information that helps them improve the service they provide to the public and their colleagues, freeing up time and saving money. The devices allow them to access important, real-time information, update police systems and be tasked remotely.

The use of technology means increased officer efficiency through large time savings in the form of reduced visits to the station, easier access to information, improved navigation and a decrease in the use of Airwave terminals.

During 2018 the rollout of devices will resume to see other officers and staff receive the new kit, allowing them to also become more mobile and work remotely.
