Murder investigation launched after woman found dead in Netherton

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman was found dead at a property in Netherton last night (Wednesday 24 January).

Police were called to Cinder Bank just after 8.15pm where the woman, believed to be in her 40s, was found seriously injured. Ambulance colleagues arrived but nothing could be done to save her and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 50-year-old man was arrested at the address and taken to hospital where he is recovering from head injuries. His condition is described as stable.

Detective Inspector Paul Joyce, from the force’s homicide unit, said: “We are in the very early stages of this enquiry, but at present we are not looking for anyone else in connection with the woman’s death.

“The couple are believed to be known to each other and we are working to establish what has led to this tragic outcome.

“Our family liaison unit are supporting the woman’s family and we would ask anyone with information which they believe will assist our enquiries to contact us on 101.”
