Man charged with knuckle duster attack on officer
We’ve charged a man with wounding after one of our officers suffered nasty facial injuries in a knuckle duster attack.
The PC was one of several on plain clothes patrols in the Hillfields area of Coventry, around Village Square, on Thursday night when he intervened in a fight.
However, one man lashed out and punched him in the mouth, tearing open his top lip and chipping some teeth.
A 23-year-old man called Kyro Christie was arrested at the scene and a large bag of cocaine recovered.
Christie, of no fixed address, was yesterday charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, possessing an offensive weapon, possessing cocaine with intent to supply, and possessing heroin.
He was set to appear at Leamington Magistrates Court today (Sat 15 Feb).
Coventry Police Inspector Simon Finney, said: “This was a really nasty, unprovoked assault. I understand the officer will need some reconstructive surgery on his lip and dental treatment.
“Assaults on our officers will not be tolerated; it’s not just ‘part of the job’ and we will always look to prosecute suspects.”
