Man charged with firearms offences

A man accused of brandishing a firearm at members of the public outside a takeaway shop in Sparkhill on Sunday (29 March) has been charged by West Midlands Police.

It’s alleged Akeel Mughal approached members of the public outside a takeaway shop on Stratford Road, Sparkhill brandishing a handgun and discharging it several times before making off from the scene.

The 30-year-old, of Fosbrooke Road, Small Heath, has been charged with possessing a firearm with the intent to cause fear of violence and possession of a firearm. 

He has also been charged with a Covid-19 related offence of contravening requirements as to restrictions of movement during an emergency. 

He is due to appear at Birmingham Magistrates Court later today.

No-one was injured during the incident.
