Inspector awarded for challenging machete wielding crook in Wolverhampton
An inspector has been awarded for challenging a man armed with a machete in December last year.
Inspector Sarah Thomas-West was on her way to work, when she saw a man running through Wolverhampton train station and another man nearby with a slash injury to his ear.
The inspector, with no thought for her own safety and unable to make contact with colleagues, chased after the man who was still wielding the weapon.
Unfortunately he managed to get away, however Sarah and her team retrieved CCTV and swiftly identified the man leading to his arrest.
Once arrested, Inspector Sarah Thomas-West was able to pick him out of an ID parade and he was charged within 72 hours of the incident.
At an awards ceremony on Tuesday 19 November, Sarah was awarded a Chief Constable’s Commendation.
