Family pay tribute to man killed in Tipton hit-and-run

A pedestrian who died after a hit-and-run collision in Tipton at the weekend has been named as Darren Whitehouse.

The 43-year-old’s devastated family have paid tribute to him as they made a heartfelt plea for anyone with information about the fatal incident to get in touch with officers.

Darren, from Tipton, was struck by a car in St Mark’s Road at about 1.40pm on Saturday (27 February) and despite the best efforts of the first officers at the scene and paramedics, he was sadly pronounced dead a short time later.

His family, who are being supported by one of our specially-trained family-liaison officers, said: “We are devastated at the sudden loss of Darren.

"We are so grateful for the support that the local community have shown to our family, thank you.

"If anyone has any information that may assist the investigation please contact the police directly.

"Whilst we struggle to come to terms with this devastating loss we would ask that our privacy is respected at this difficult time."

Officers later recovered what’s believed to be the offending vehicle, a silver Infiniti which had been stolen in Rowley Regis on 24 February and a forensic analysis of that car is being carried out as our investigations continue.

We can confirm that a report of a disorder in which a man suffered a stab wound at a shop in St Mark’s Road at around 2.15pm the same day is not believed to be linked and is being investigated as a separate incident.

If you were in the area on Saturday lunchtime and have any dash-cam or cycle-cam video we urge you to check the footage to see if the collision or a silver car making off from the scene was caught on camera.

And any witnesses who we’ve not yet spoken with are also asked to get in touch.
