Award for police team who aided stab victims - and help catch knifeman

A police team who came to the aid of two stab victims and helped catch their attacker have received awards.

Officers were called after two men were found with serious injuries in and around Planet nightclub, Wolverhampton city centre, in September 2017.

Sergeant Paul Frear, from the Wolverhampton city centre team, provided first aid to one victim while PC Paul Bishop assisted the other man before ambulance crews arrived.

PCs Neil Thompson, Abigail Chandler and Thomas Fleming helped control a difficult scene, obtain witness accounts and identify lines of enquiry which led to an arrest days later.

The two victims, who were aged in their 20s, recovered from their injuries.

A 22-year-old man was jailed last June for 14 years for two counts of causing grievous bodily harm.

The officers were awarded a Chief Constables Team Award and Royal Humane Society Certificates during a ceremony at Tally Ho on Tuesday 22 January.

Chief Inspector Tom Chisholm, from Wolverhampton Police, said: "This was a real team effort and their quick actions not only helped two injured men, but also led to the arrest of their attacker."
