Appeal after fatal hit-and-run in Wolverhampton

Police are appealing for information after a pedestrian has died following a hit-and-run collision in Wolverhampton last night (26 October).

Officers were called to Evans Street, Whitmore Reans, just after 10pm and found a man with serious injuries.

Despite the best efforts of emergency services the 63-year-old was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

A silver Mercedes which is believed to have been involved in the collision was recovered nearby and a 48 year old man was subsequently arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He is currently in police custody.

Officers are keen to hear from any witnesses and particularly anyone with dash cam footage which could assist the investigation.

Sergeant Dean Caswell, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "We are in the very early stages of our enquiries and our thoughts are with the man’s family and friends at this tragic time.

"I would urge anyone who was in the area at the time, and may have seen or heard anything, to get in touch as soon as possible."

Contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on email at FL_COLLISION_INVEST@west-midlands.pnn.police.uk, call 101 or Live Chat via WMP Online between 8am and midnight. Quote log number 2562 of 26 October.
