Murder probe after man dies from head injuries

Detectives have launched a murder investigation following the death of a man found with serious head injuries at a property in Birmingham. 

Christopher Messenger was discovered at an address in Highfield Road, Washwood Heath, at just before 2pm on Friday, 9 February.  

The 36-year-old was taken to hospital but died yesterday afternoon (Monday 12 February).   

Gavin Casey, aged 31, appeared at Birmingham Magistrates Court yesterday after being charged with attempted murder over the weekend; this is to be reviewed following the death of Mr Messenger.

Detective Inspector Paul Joyce, from Force CID, said: "Following this sad death of Christopher this has now become a murder investigation.  

"Our sympathies are with his family and we have specialist officers giving them support at what is a very difficult time.  

"We are still keen to hear from anyone with information which can assist our on-going enquiries."
