Both police officers and police staff work together to ensure the effective and efficient running of the force.
STRUCTURE
Neighbourhood Policing Units
The force is divided into 8 Neighbourhood Policing Units (NPUs), each headed by a Chief Superintendent, who is responsible for the overall policing and management of the area.
The 8 NPUs are policed by neighbourhood teams. Each team contains police officers, police community support officers and special constables.

Cannabis DisposalThe Cannabis Disposal Team is made up of eight specialist police staff members.

Counter TerrorismAlthough a part of West Midlands Police, West Midlands Counter Terrorism Unit (WMCTU) is one of five teams across the country that form the Counter Terrorism Policing Network.

Dog UnitOur police dogs are trained at a specialist centre in Balsall Common.

Events and TaskingEvents and Tasking is a dedicated unit of officers and staff responsible for planning, managing and supporting events.

ForensicsWe have a dedicated group of forensic science experts qualified in a range of specialist disciplines. They search for clues at crime scenes, as well as recover, analyse, and examine evidence to support investigations.

Offender ManagementIntegrated Offender Management (IOM) sees partner agencies working together to ensure that offenders who cause most the damage and harm are identified, managed and rehabilitated.

Operational Support UnitThe Operational Support Unit (OSU) is made up of officers with a wide range of specialist skills.

Police HelicoptersThe National Police Air Service (NPAS) is organised nationally, but delivered locally.

ROCUThe West Midlands Regional Organised Crime Unit (WMROCU) is a partnership that sees local police forces working together to fight organised crime.

Safer TravelThe public transport network in the West Midlands is policed by the Safer Travel Partnership.
