It is a criminal offence for employers to ask individuals, as a condition of employment, to submit a subject access request under the provisions of the Data Protection Act 1998, as a form of vetting.

If you are going to work as a paid employee or as a volunteer for an organisation and your work will bring you into contact with children or vulnerable adults, or have been asked to apply for a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check for any other reason regarding employment purposes, you must access the DBS website.
