West Midlands Police have been operating a breeding programme for German Shepherd dogs since 1994 from their kennels and training centre at Balsall Common, Solihull.

From its early beginnings, the scheme has evolved and developed considerably and now produces upwards of 8 litters annually, involving something in the region of 40 - 60 puppies, all of which is managed by our breeding manager and police dog instructor Dave Raymond, who is ably assisted by our small army of puppy walkers.

WMP - new recruitsThe aim of the scheme is to ensure that West Midlands Police is able to effectively plan for all future police dog retirements and replacements, and with some degree of certainty that the puppies that the scheme produces will be temperamentally sound, healthy and free from any genetic disorders, and most importantly from good working blood lines.

Occasionally we are in a position to offer any surplus puppies from our litters for sale, either to other police forces or to members of the public.

Full details of each litter will be published on this site as they become available.

Similarly, we sometimes get dogs that are a little older and that fail to make the grade as a working police dog. These are usually about 12 months of age and can make wonderful family pets.

Should you require any further information on any of the above or details of forthcoming litters, you can contact Dave at david.raymond@west-midlands.pnn.police.uk
