Police appeal for key witness in sexual assault investigation

16 March 2012

POLICE in Wolverhampton are appealing for help to trace a key witness as part of an ongoing sexual assault investigation.

The incident happened on Linthouse Lane near Coral Bookmakers between 7:15pm and 7:45pm on Monday 27 February.

A man approached the 13-year-old female victim and began to sexually assault her, however he fled after a vehicle drove past the scene.

Officers believe the driver of that vehicle could hold crucial information which could assist with the investigation.

PC Jennifer Wigham, from Wolverhampton Police, said: "We know that the vehicle had four doors and was red in colour – the driver may not even realise that they are a witness.

"I would ask people who drive around the Linthouse Lane area of Wolverhampton to think back to the evening of 27 February and consider whether they may have been the motorist in question.

"We are very keen to speak to the motorist as we believe he or she could hold crucial information which would assist this investigation."

Anyone with any information is asked to call Wolverhampton Police on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
