M42 closed following fatal collision

THE M42 BETWEEN junctions 5 and 6 remains closed this morning (Tuesday) as officers investigate the circumstances surrounding a collision in which a driver died.

Police were alerted to the incident at around 4.35am this morning by a member of the public who dialled 999.

Police and other emergency services were immediately dispatched and the driver was taken to a hospital where he died a short time later.

It is thought the car was struck by a lorry on the north bound carriageway in the early hours.

The motorway remains closed off while specialist investigators establish the circumstance surrounding the collision.

The north bound section remains closed and drivers are advised to avoid the area until further notice.

The deceased has yet been identified.
