Extreme stunt rider to join top officer at latest Bikesafe workshop

29 August 2012

EXTREME motorcycle stunt rider Craig Jones will join officers from West Midlands Police at the latest Bikesafe course at Tally Ho next month and local bikers are being encourage to sign-up for the event.

Bikesafe is a countrywide initiative run by the majority of police forces which aims to reduce motorcycling casualties.

Trained biker cops from West Midlands Police deliver the courses, which run every month throughout the year, to everyday motorcyclists.

The latest workshop takes place on Saturday 15 September.

Assistant Chief Constable Marcus Beale will also be attending to show his support for the scheme.

Sergeant Richard Breeze, from the force’s Collision Investigation Unit and who runs the course, said: “We get so much support for Bikesafe which is great because the course really does make a difference.

“There are still places available on September’s workshop and I would encourage anyone with a full motorcycle licence to consider registering.

“The latest course is bigger than usual and we will be welcoming expert stunt rider Craig Jones as well as our own Assistant Chief Constable Marcus Beale.

“Bikers will leave the workshop with a greater understanding of the risks involved in riding motorcycles on today’s roads and be better equipped to combat them.

“Anyone who comes along will have a lot of fun with other motorcyclists and should get more enjoyment from their machine more safely.”

Bikesafe has been running in the West Midlands for eight years.

Craig Jones said: "The skills that I have as an extreme rider can give you the edge in a potentially difficult situation.

“What may seem to be an unlikely partnership with the police is what makes this so effective.

“I want people to understand how to really control a bike which, could one day, save their life.

The idea is for the student to take in new skills and use them in a responsible way. We'll have a lot of fun doing it too!”

Anyone who is interested in registering should visit www.bikesafe.co.uk and click on the West Midlands area.

Officers who run the scheme will be at the NEC Bike Show between 24 Sept and 2 Dec where anyone interested in taking part can book for future courses or buy vouchers as a gift.
