'Wrong way' lorry driver due back in court
6 August 2012
A LORRY DRIVER is due to be sentenced after admitting driving the wrong way along the M6 motorway.
Pal Korbely, aged 50, was detained by Central Motorway Police officers near to junction 10 at around 10.40pm on Saturday 7 July after police received several emergency calls regarding a heavy goods vehicle driving southbound on the northbound carriageway.
The lorry had joined the motorway at junction 10A, with the first call being received at 10.24pm.
The Hungarian driver was stopped three miles along the motorway in the vicinity of junction 10, in Walsall, when other lorry drivers formed a blockade to stop the oncoming vehicle. He was subsequently arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and driving a motor vehicle whilst under the influence of alcohol. Korbely was later charged with both offences and pleaded guilty during a hearing at Birmingham Magistrates Court on 9 July.
The driver will appear before Birmingham Crown Court for sentencing this morning.
