Detectives name 16-year-old Smethwick murder victim as Ben Morturare

DETECTIVES are appealing for witnesses as investigations continue into the murder of a teenager following a disturbance at a Smethwick Club.
The victim has been named as 16-year-old Ben Morturare from Walsall. A post mortem revealed that Ben died of a stab wound to the leg.
He sustained the injury following a disturbance in the early hours of Saturday morning (28 July) outside the Smethwick Home Guard and Old Comrades Club in Oldbury road.
Ben was taken to Birmingham Children’s Hospital, where he later died of his injury.
Detective Inspector Gary Plant, from force CID, said: “We have launched a murder investigation following the tragic loss of this young man’s life.
“We believe that this was an isolated incident and crime of this type is very rare.
"We are appealing for anyone to come forward who may have witnessed the incident or if they attended the club that night. If you can help then please contact us at your earliest opportunity by calling 101.”
