SEVEN ARRESTED IN CRACKDOWN ON CAR KEY BURGLARY

27 January 2011

WALSALL police arrested seven people last week after six properties were searched in an operation to tackle car key burglars.

Five men, aged 19, 20, 25, 27 and 39 years, were arrested on suspicion of conspiring to steal motor vehicles and money laundering and were bailed pending further enquiries.

Two women, aged 23 years and 67 years, were also arrested in connection with money laundering and have been placed on police bail.

Properties were searched in Birmingham, Erdington, Ward End, Castle Bromwich and Stechford.

Sergeant Mike Mason, from Walsall's police priority team, said: "We have recovered a large quantity of vehicle parts, cash and a quantity of drugs from the six addresses.

"We have further enquiries to do but at this stage it appears that this was a sophisticated and organised criminal group that has been targeting vehicles across the West Midlands. The arrests are a culmination of several months of hard work and investigation by the team."
