Chief Constable welcomes appointment of Police and Crime Commissioner

16 November 2012

THE CHIEF Constable Chris Sims has today welcomed the new West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) Bob Jones.

Commissioner Jones was elected after beating Matt Bennett into second place.

Mr Sims will meet with Commissioner Jones in the coming days to discuss the future and look at how together they can further improve the service provided to local people.

Mr Sims said: “I would like to congratulate Bob Jones on being elected as the West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner.

“This year the West Midlands has seen the lowest crime ever recorded thanks to the hard work of officers and staff across the force.

“We are entering a new era for policing governance and I am confident that we will be able to build on recent successes.

“I will be meeting with Commissioner Jones in his capacity as PCC over the coming days to discuss how we can start to shape our plans for working together.“

Commissioner Jones secured 117,388 first and second preference votes, compared with 55,685 for Matt Bennett. The overall turnout across the West Midlands was 12.31%.
