Student touched inappropriately on Walsall to Birmingham bus

24 October 2012

POLICE are appealing for help to identify a man who inappropriately touched a teenage girl on a bus from Birmingham to Walsall.

It happened as the 17-year-old student travelled on the number 51 on the morning of Tuesday 18 September.

The offender got on at Walsall Gala Baths just after 9am and sat next to her. He used his jacket as cover while he stroked her leg.

She got up immediately, meanwhile the man got off the bus at the next stop, near to the Blue Coat School on Birmingham Street.

He is described as Asian, between 30 and 40-years-old, between 5ft 10ins and 6ft tall and of medium build. He had dark brown or black hair, which was combed back and short in style. He wore light coloured jeans, a white t-shirt, carried a black jacket and had a strong body odour.

PC Karen Kirman, from the Public Protection Unit in Walsall, said: “This was a very unnerving experience for the victim who was on her way to university.

“We hope someone may recognise him, so that we can prevent this or something worse happening to anyone else.

“We take all reports of molestation seriously and would encourage anyone who suffers this type of abuse to have the courage to report it to police.”

Anyone with information should contact PC Kirman on 101 or information can be given to the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
