Welcome to Sutton Coldfield Operational Command Unit

Chief Superintendent James Andronov

James Andronov,
Chief Superintendent

Welcome to your local neighbourhood policing website for Sutton Coldfield operational command unit (OCU). My name is Chief Superintendent James Andronov and I have the privilege of being the OCU Commander for the Sutton Coldfield area, including the Boldmere, Castle Vale, Four Oaks, Town Centre, Walmley, Whitehouse Common, Erdington, Kingstanding, Oscott and Perry Common areas.

I hope that you find this website useful to find the information you need about policing in your area, including contact details of your local Neighbourhood Police team with photos of your Neighbourhood Inspector and local Sergeants, details of local priorities for your area, and details of police surgeries and neighbourhood meetings where you can meet your Neighbourhood Team to raise issues of concern to you, direct with them.

Click here http://www.west-midlands.police.uk/np/suttoncoldfield/neighbourhood.asp, to find details of your local Neighbourhood Police Team - then simply choose Sector A (Sutton Coldfield) or Sector B (Kingstanding) to see your local neighbourhood page. You can also phone 0845 113 5000 and enter the 8 digit number for your Neighbourhood Team as shown on the web page for your local team. You can also read more about what our officers have been doing in your neighbourhood by visiting our NEWS pages at http://www.west-midlands.police.uk/np/suttoncoldfield/news.asp.

On June 1 West Midlands Police welcomed its new Chief Constable, Chris Sims. Mr Sims has already reinforced West Midlands Police’s strong belief in community-based, accountable policing, which puts the public at the heart of everything we do. Meeting your needs and expectations, as well as increasing your trust and confidence in policing will remain at the very top of our agenda over the coming years.

To do this, we really want your help. We need you to tell us how we can deal with the issues that affect you most in your day to day lives. You can do this by calling or e-mailing us via your local Neighbourhood Team, by attending one of our police surgeries, or simply by having a chat with one of our officers or PCSOs in the street.

As many of you may already know through your involvement with your Neighbourhood Team, or may have seen in the local press, our Neighbourhood Teams are committed to getting to know you, and are taking positive action to deal with problems of crime, disorder and anti-social behaviour to make your area a safer place.

  • Sutton Coldfield town centre is being made a safer place to enjoy a night out, as a tough stance on violent, anti-social and drunken behaviour has been introduced, including offenders arrested being banned from the town centre and put before Sutton Coldfield Magistrates instead of receiving police cautions.
  • Local officers are targeting those people who handle stolen goods, acting on intelligence to arrest offenders who receive or sell on stolen property to reduce the market for stolen property.
  • Neighbourhood Teams are at the forefront of tackling drug dealing, with your local team regularly involved in acting on intelligence to execute search warrants and arrest drug dealing offenders in your neighbourhood.
  • Officers are reducing burglaries and car crime, with 1500 fewer potential victims of crime in Sutton Coldfield over the last year, thanks to their hard work conducting ‘hot street checks’, where officers on local patrols alert the owners of insecure vehicles or homes and provide crime prevention advice.
  • Neighbourhood officers already work closely with Birmingham City Council and other partners, together with local residents, in running ‘Neighbourhood Tasking’ in Sutton Coldfield; a regular meeting where local residents pass on details of local community problems to police and partners who then take action on and report back to residents. Neighbourhood officers, together with local partners and residents have taken part in a ‘Neighbourhood Tasking Summit’ event, the first of its kind in the country, aimed at ensuring that Neighbourhood Tasking is as effective as possible in responding to concerns raised by local people.

I am very proud to lead the team of police officers and police staff on Sutton Coldfield OCU, who are passionate about delivering the best possible service to local people, and ensuring that our communities are a safe place to live work and visit. Thank you for your continued support.

James Andronov,
Chief Superintendent
