Help catch fish bar thief

27 February 2012

SECURITY cameras at a Solihull chippy show a man paying for a can of drink – but just seconds later he lunges over the counter and grabs the shop's takings.

The man is shown on CCTV walking into the fish bar in Green Lane, Castle Bromwich, at around 8.30pm on Sunday February 5.

He offers £5 for the drink but when the female cashier opens the till the man, believed to be in his mid-30s, reaches forward and snatches £70; in his haste he dropped some of the notes in a deep fat fryer.

The man is described as a white male, 5ft 9ins tall, medium build, with short brown hair and his face is said to 'droop' slightly on the right side. He was wearing a blue tracksuit with red and white marks on the sleeves.

Investigating officer PC Julie Stokes, said: "His demeanour is initially calm but he lunges forward aggressively as soon as the cash drawer opens…you can see on the CCTV footage that the cashier is petrified.

"He only gets away with a small sum of money but it was a very shocking incident for the female staff member – and we want to catch-up with this man quickly in case he tries to do the same again elsewhere."

The man is understood to have fled from the shop onto Green Lane in the direction of Castle Bromwich.

Anyone who believes they recognise the man, or who has information about the theft, is asked to contact PC Julie Stokes at Solihull Police's Investigation Team on 0345 113 5000 (ext: 7921 6644).
