OFFICERS have made ninety arrests over the last ten weeks as part of a dedicated operation to blitz crime on the Gospel Estate.
Operation Intrusive, run jointly by Solihull and Birmingham East Police, is dedicated to cutting serious acquisitive crime along the Solihull and Birmingham East Border by managing known offenders on the Gospel Estate.
Last week (7-11 March) seven people were arrested, bringing the operation arrest total up to 90.
Three people were arrested on suspicion of burglary, two for suspected possession of a class A drug, one on suspicion of taking without consent, one for driving while disqualified and another for testing positive when breathalysed.
Officers also executed an arrest warrant for a man wanted for five burglaries and various thefts. Although he was not arrested on that occasion, important information was gathered and suspected stolen property recovered.
47 vehicles have been stopped in the last week and four seized, bringing the total numbers of vehicles seized as part of the operation to 108.
This week the operation extends the reach of its automatic number plate recognition operations (ANPR) beyond the Gospel estate, into Knowle, Dorridge and Shirley.
Specialist number plate scanning technology scans number plates and checks them against a database of stolen and wanted cars as well as those that are untaxed and uninsured. Officers hope that by moving the ANPR to Knowle, Dorridge and Shirley it will stop the potential displacement of crime from Gospel Estate into the surrounding area.
The Solihull Partnership team are supporting the operation by promoting road safety in the area.
Sergeant Kevin Goggin from the Operation Intrusive team said: “Criminals know that we have some intense activity on the Gospel Estate and it is becoming a 'no-go' zone for them. What we are doing now is making sure those criminals don’t continue to offend in nearby areas instead.
"I want to reassure residents in Knowle, Dorridge and Shirley that the traffic operations they will see over the next week are not about catching speeding motorists, but catching criminals."
