Reporting a crime? How can we help?
If there is an emergency, always call 999. For police purposes, an emergency is when:
- There is a danger to life
- There is a risk of serious injury
- A crime is in progress or about to happen
- An offender is still at the scene
We aim to arrive at emergencies within 10 minutes.
If your call is not an emergency, you can contact your local police station via our service desk switchboard on 0345 113 5000.
Our helpdesk deals with all non-emergency calls. They will assist you by taking details of an incident which needs police attendance (but is not an emergency), provide you with a crime reference number or offer you advice

Partner Agencies
It is important to note that the police do not deal with all issues that may affect the way you live or how you can improve your safety and well being. Help us to help you by not phoning the police when you don’t need to. Often we receive calls which should be directed to other agencies. While we are tied up dealing with these calls, we cannot deal with police-related matters.
