Welcome to Sandwell Local Policing Unit
Sandwell Police are steadily reducing crime across the borough.
There has been a 12.9 per cent reduction in crime between April 2012 and March 2013 which equates to 2,600 fewer victims. However we cannot become complacent and we remain focused on further reducing crime, in particular burglary and robbery.
We have an operation planned for later this month which focuses on keeping robbery down. Despite significant reductions on robbery (24.9 per cent) we are targeting hot spot areas with a view to keeping robbery down.
Officers will be stepping up patrols particularly in Smethwick and West Bromwich at key times and aim to cut robberies and other crimes during the two weeks intense campaign.
The campaign aims to reduce the number of offences by adopting a variety of tactics, including increasing the number of offenders charged and brought to justice and speeding up the process between arrest and sentence.
As the warmer weather approaches we also want to remind residents of the simple steps to follow to reduce your chances of being targeted by burglars:
- Secure doors and windows
- If you’re out late leave a light on to give the impression someone’s home
- Never leave spare keys in a hiding place, such as a door mat or flower pot
- If you are going away consider using timer switches for lights, TV and radio.
- Use your burglar alarm (if you have one)
- Make sure your sheds and garages are secure. Always lock ladders and tools away to stop a burglar using them.
