Welcome to Dudley North Operational Command Unit

Chief Superintendent Keith Baldwin

Keith Baldwin,
Chief Superintendent

West Midlands Police is undergoing a programme of change. Programme Paragon is designed to shape WMP for the future to allow us to more efficiently and effectively serve our communities.

The current structure of 21 operational command units will change in April 2010 – to be replaced by 10 local policing units (LPUs).

The LPUs will be aligned to local authority boundaries or constituency boundaries for Birmingham, which will assist closer working relationships with partners such as the local authorities. Our LPU will encompass Dudley Borough.

At the top of the agenda is delivering a first class policing service and protecting our communities from serious harm posed by issues such as terrorism, guns and gangs and serious organised crime.

As part of Paragon we are placing more emphasis on allowing staff to use their professional judgement, encouraging them to make decisions which provide the public with a quality service.

We will continue to develop neighbourhood policing – in particular developing and retaining strong links with our communities and partners to deliver the highest level of service.

Paragon will mean the force will move away from the traditional culture of achieving performance targets and instead concentrate on improving public confidence.

I am delighted to have been appointed Commander for the Dudley Borough LPU and regard it as a privilege to be given responsibility for improving the trust and confidence of the people of Dudley. Until next April, the existing command structure and staff will remain in situ and will be unaffected. I would like to reassure the residents of Dudley North that they can expect the same high level of service we strive to deliver throughout this period of change.
