Coventry prepares for the London2012 Olympics with the Proud of my City campaign

PRESS RELEASE ISSUED BY THE COVENTRY COMMUNITY SAFETY PARTNERSHIP:

AS ANTICIPATION grows in Coventry ahead of the opportunity to co-host the London 2012 football competition, the Proud of my City campaign will see coordinated activity to clean up the city in preparation for the city's once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
In the wake of the successful and award winning Not in my City campaign, Coventry is now a safer city with significant reductions in violence achieved over the last 18 months and together with the £7 million public realm investment and physical transformation currently taking place, there are successes to celebrate in tough economic times.
The Coventry Partnership brings together representatives from the community, private, public and voluntary sectors to work together to help improve the city as a place to live, work and play and a new website, www.proudofmycity.org.uk is a portal to many of the street-based services across the city that people can interact with to get involved.
Councillor John Mutton, Coventry City Council leader, said, "The Proud of my City campaign is about raising civic pride, about celebrating what's good about the city and giving every resident the opportunity to get involved and make a difference in preparing Coventry for London 2012. Whether it's taking part in a street clean-up, running your own community fun-day, becoming a Neighbourhood Watch Coordinator or just coming into the city to enjoy its attractions and the new Broadgate when it's finished, there will be opportunities for everyone to get involved over the next 6 months."
Chief Superintendent Steve Glover, West Midlands Police, said, "Building on the success of Not in my City we saw the benefits at first hand this summer in not seeing the sort of disorder in Coventry which blighted other cities. The timing is right for Proud of my City to celebrate the way in which Coventry is looking forward to a brighter future and the exciting prospect of joining with the London 2012 Olympic competition."
The new Proud of my City website www.proudofmycity.org.uk is a one-stop shop for more information on how you can get involved.
Click on the 'submit your story' link to tell us your story of how you're making a positive difference to Coventry and why you're proud of your city. You can also send us your photos and we'll post them to this site and add them to the 'Proud of my City' Flickr group."
