Action - community priorities

The priorities for Dudley Fields, Mossley and Turnberry neighbourhood are:

  1. Anti-social behaviour - Turnberry Estate
  2. Traffic - Chepstow Estate
  3. Anti-social behaviour - Bloxwich North Train Station
  4. Shed breaks - Mossley/Turnberry/Stafford Rd and Enderley Drive

Answers - feedback and solutions

The following are the issues raised from our last neighbourhood meeting and what we are doing to tackle them:

  • Anti-social behaviour - Turnberry Estate - Feb 2010
I have received complaints about anti-social behaviour from local residents and at the last residents meeting.
This includes incidents of criminal damage, young people egging premises and setting fire to trees and fence panels.
My team will be increasing patrols in the area and we have also been given a couple of names of potential offenders. We will be making further enquiries and will report back to residents at the next meeting.
  • Shed Breaks - Mossley/Turnberry/Stafford Rd and Enderley Drive
At this time of year we always see a slight rise in shed breaks.

We have increased patrols in the areas highlighted above. We are offering to fit shed alarms to targeted, vulnerable premises. We are also offering to visit your address and give you advice on how to best protect your property. If you are interested in any of these services please call us on 0845 113 5000.

We are also appealing for any information that can bring the offenders to justice. You can call us on 0845 113 5000 or give information anonymously by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

    .
  • Traffic - Chepstow Estate - Feb 2010
At the last community action tasking (CAT) group, we have received a number of complaints with regards to inconsiderate parking in and around the Chepstow estate.

Residents are complaining that streets are being obstructed by vehicles parked inappropriately.

We have posted letters to all residents outlining the problem and also informing them of ongoing police operations to tackle the issue.

We will be allowing a short period of time for residents to park more suitably and then we WILL deal with offences by means of ticketing/reporting offences. In extreme circumstances we can also exert our power and seize vehicles.
  • Anti-social behaviour - Bloxwich North Station- Feb 2010
At the last Community Action Tasking (CAT) meeting we have been told of young people congregating around the Bloxwich North Train Station. We have also had reports of young people urinating from the railway bridge onto persons below.

This is not acceptable behaviour and we endeavour to increase patrols to catch the culprits. When caught we will deal with them robustly and consider acceptable behaviour orders (ABC).

We are now working closely with British Transport Police who will also be patroling the area at key times. If you have any information as to the identity of these culprits you can call us on 08451135000 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

How can you get involved?

The Prince's Trust - for 16 to 25 year olds.

West Midlands Police are working closely with the Princes Trust programme and Wolverhampton College to offer a free development course for 16 - 25 year olds.

The course is run from Brownhills police station and lasts for 12 weeks.

The programme is designed to improve and develop skills and offer further education and training to help the attendees find work.

It is a personal development programme which, through practical support including training and teamwork in the community, helps them realise their potential whilst developing their confidence, motivation, communication skills and self esteem.

The students build a portfolio of certificates through various activities, including a week spent taking part in team building challenges. They are also required to take part in a community project, for which they must help raise funding. They practice interview techniques, learn how to write a CV and complete two weeks work experience.

At the end of the course the students deliver a presentation to family and friends which is usually very emotional and a credit to their achievements.

The Team Leaders for Brownhills are PC Richard Hartland and PCSO Lin Boukley.  Commenting on the programme PC Hartland said: "The students work very hard and gain valuable life experience through the course."

"Through the support given by the Prince's Trust, the young people have new goals and ambitions. It is a pleasure to work with them and see them achieve so much."

For more information on the Team Programme or how to take part please call one of the team leaders on 07919 411 156 or visit the website at www.wolvcoll.ac.uk/princes_trust.

Set up your own Neighbourhood Watch

Set up your own Neighbourhood Watch, a proven way to reduce crime.

Households in active neighbourhood watch schemes tend to experience less crime as they are more aware of their personal and home security and pay more attention to what is going on in their street.

Regular contact with neighbourhood policing teams brings greater awareness of what is going on in their area.  In addition, being part of neighbourhood watch brings other benefits, for example:

  • 'Relay' messages - the relay system is a free automated messaging system that is used to send out crime prevention and other messages to neighbourhood watch co-ordinators.
  • Regular newsletters.  These can also be sent out be e-mail
  • Access to other services, offered by the Home Office, Safer Walsall Partnership and West Midlands Police
  • Cheaper home insurance!
  • Neighbourhood watch street signs available free of charge

You can be assured of plenty of support from the police and fellow co-ordinators.  The amount of work involved is minimal, and setting up a scheme is very easy.

To find out more or to arrange a face to face meeting ring Kevin Pitt on 01922 439103 or email him at the Walsall community Safety team on n_walsall_cst@west_midlands.pnn.police.uk.

You can also visit the Neighbourhood Watch website at www.neighbourhoodwatch.net for more information.
