Action - community priorities
The priorities for New Deal neighbourhood are:
- Ant-social behaviour
From local residents and the last Neighbourhood Watch Meeting, we will be tackling anti-social behaviour in and around the following areas:
Smith and Thomas House, Stoney lane and Lower Farm.
Alleyway/canal towpath between Lichfield Rd to Mackay Rd, Little Bloxwich
Guild Avenue,Well Lane and Walker Road, Blakenall
Youth Club at Blakenall Community Centre. - Drug Crime
We are appealing for any information in relation to drug activity in your area. We will take positive action against any information received. Rest assured any information received will be dealt with the utmost confidence. - Vehicle Crime
Crime analysis shows an increase invehicle crime in and around the High St, Bloxwich.
Most of these crimes have been by opportunist thieves who see valuables on display and break windows to steal them.
We are advising you to take valuables out of your vehicle and to not leave items on display.
Answers - feedback and solutions
The following are the issues raised from our last neighbourhood meeting and what we are doing to tackle them:
- Anti-social behaviour
Officers attend several local residents meetings and as a result of complaints received about anti social behaviour we have increased patrols and utilised the mobile police station in hot spot areas to deter youths from gathering and causing anti-social behaviour. The mobile police station has proved very successful, the anti social behaviour has reduced and the feedback from residents has been positive. As well as a number of Domehawk cameras around the area we have installed covert cameras in residents homes to capture anti-social behaviour and to identify the youths. This evidence will be used to take action against the offenders and provides reassurance to vulnerable residents.
. - Anti-social behviour contd..
We have been working closely with the anti-social behaviour unit and Walsall Housing Group (WHG). We have delivered numerous letters to the parents of offending youths as well as risk of eviction letters if the behaviour continues. This action has detered anti-social behaviour.
Several Acceptable Behaviour Contracts (ABC's) have been issued to local youths and we are also recruiting parents on to the Positive Parenting Programme to offer support and advice to look after their children.
As well as a number of established Neighbourhood Watch Schemes in your area we have recently set up 3 new schemes. We are working with residents from Harrison Street, Benton Crescent and Hardy Road to encourage the community to work together. - Drug Crime
We regularly execute drug warrants within the area from any information received. We have recently charged three people from the area with cultivating and supplying cannabis. We will update our website with the result of the court case in due course. - Beat Team on the Bus
This is an initiative we have started on NHT9 and involves members of the team spending time travelling on the local bus network, namely the 302, 319, 319a, and the 327 routes. This initiative provides us with a unique opportunity to engage with the community and to provide reassurance and crime prevention advice and literature.
This scheme has proved very successful during the Summer. The feedback from commuters is that they would like to see a police presence on the buses in school term time.
We have listed to your concerns and will be arranging our bus beat surgeries around the hotspot times.
. - Crime Prevention
Winter is now upon us and with it comes darker nights. You now need to re-adress your security arrangements. Remember to lock doors and windows when you leave your home and most importantly to leave a light on during the house of darkness.
We have had an increase in vehicle crime in and around High Street, Bloxwich. We have increased our high visibility patrols and will also be doing some plain clothes operations to deter and identfiy offenders. Please ensure that you leave your vehicle secure. Do not leave anything on show in your vehicle and take all valuables with you
.

How can you get involved?
The Prince's Trust - for 16 to 25 year olds.
West Midlands Police are working closely with the Princes Trust programme and Wolverhampton College to offer a free development course for 16 - 25 year olds.
The course is run from Brownhills police station and lasts for 12 weeks.
The programme is designed to improve and develop skills and offer further education and training to help the attendees find work.
It is a personal development programme which, through practical support including training and teamwork in the community, helps them realise their potential whilst developing their confidence, motivation, communication skills and self esteem.
The students build a portfolio of certificates through various activities, including a week spent taking part in team building challenges. They are also required to take part in a community project, for which they must help raise funding. They practice interview techniques, learn how to write a CV and complete two weeks work experience.
At the end of the course the students deliver a presentation to family and friends which is usually very emotional and a credit to their achievements.
The Team Leaders for Brownhills are PC Richard Hartland and PCSO Lin Boukley. Commenting on the programme PC Hartland said: "The students work very hard and gain valuable life experience through the course."
"Through the support given by the Prince's Trust, the young people have new goals and ambitions. It is a pleasure to work with them and see them achieve so much."
For more information on the Team Programme or how to take part please call one of the team leaders on 07919 411 156 or visit the website at www.wolvcoll.ac.uk/princes_trust.
Set up your own Neighbourhood Watch
Set up your own Neighbourhood Watch, a proven way to reduce crime.
Households in active neighbourhood watch schemes tend to experience less crime as they are more aware of their personal and home security and pay more attention to what is going on in their street.
Regular contact with neighbourhood policing teams brings greater awareness of what is going on in their area. In addition, being part of neighbourhood watch brings other benefits, for example:
- 'Relay' messages - the relay system is a free automated messaging system that is used to send out crime prevention and other messages to neighbourhood watch co-ordinators.
- Regular newsletters. These can also be sent out be e-mail
- Access to other services, offered by the Home Office, Safer Walsall Partnership and West Midlands Police
- Cheaper home insurance!
- Neighbourhood watch street signs available free of charge
You can be assured of plenty of support from the police and fellow co-ordinators. The amount of work involved is minimal, and setting up a scheme is very easy.
To find out more or to arrange a face to face meeting ring Kevin Pitt on 01922 439103 or email him at the Walsall community Safety team on n_walsall_cst@west_midlands.pnn.police.uk.
