Welcome to Birmingham West and Central Local Policing Unit

It has been a busy few weeks in Birmingham, with officers working alongside residents, shoppers and students to share crime prevention advice and equipment in a bid to reduce crime.

SmartwaterHundreds of homes across Aston have been visited during the past few months, with window and door alarms being fitted by local officers and PCSOs as part of an anti-burglary campaign.

A number of residents have also had valuables such as televisions, laptops and mobile phones marked with a unique DNA liquid. This can help officers re-unite stolen items with their rightful owners.

Car users who regularly park in Digbeth and the city centre may have seen an increased police presence recently. Officers have been sharing crime prevention advice with those parking in these areas, and have also been fitting special anti-theft number plate screws to vehicles on a regular basis.

Saturday ScrewsWith the warmer weather finally arriving, officers in the city centre have also stepped up patrols around clubs and pubs in a bid to deter alcohol related crime and anti-social behaviour. Officers from our dedicated theft team have made several arrests in recent weeks, with suspected pick pockets being identified on numerous occasions.

We continue to tackle drug crime across the city, with dozens of warrants executed in recent weeks thanks to information received from the local community. A number of individuals have also been jailed for drug related offences, including a 34 year old man from Frankley who received four and a half years sentence for supplying class A drugs.

We really do rely on information from the public, so please do call us on 101 if you suspect drug crime to be taking place.

A number of live web chats have also taken place in recent weeks, enabling local policing sergeants and inspectors to communicate directly with hundreds of residents online. Keep an eye on our ‘Find Out More’ tab for further web chats that are planned throughout the summer.

Statistics show that opportunist burglaries traditionally increase in the spring and early summer. To reduce the chance of becoming a victim of burglary, please remember to securely lock windows and doors and to double check them before bed.

Garden sheds, garages and outhouses can also be targeted by criminals so please remember to secure them and keep garden tools safely locked away.
