Police warn about spate of wing mirror thefts across Birmingham
12 March 2012
Police are warning car owners about a recent increase in the theft of wing mirrors, specifically from new style BMW minis.
Since the end of February there have been thirty-eight incidents reported across Birmingham South, Birmingham East and Birmingham North local policing units. Offenders are targeting specific areas and carrying out a number of offences in a short space of time.
Officers have stepped up patrols around hotspot locations including car parks and side streets and are using a variety of tactics including CCTV and plain clothed officers to identify suspects. They are also speaking to mini owners in affected areas and giving out crime prevention advice.
Police are also reminding car owners to remain vigilant and if possible park their cars in garages or well lit areas.
