Preventing crime, protecting the public and helping those in need
Birmingham Police have released CCTV footage of a man they would like to speak to after a young woman was assaulted yards from her home.
The 18-year-old was walking along Pershore Road towards the city centre just after 4am on Saturday 8 February when she was attacked and sexually assaulted by a tall Asian man.
The man was quite light skinned with a long face and possibly in his twenties. He had a slight Birmingham accent and was wearing a grey hooded top.
Forensic experts have scoured the scene for clues resulting in a partial DNA profile of a potential suspect.
Officers have trawled through CCTV footage from the surrounding area in a bid to trace the attacker.
Investigating officer PC Gavin McGrath said: "The CCTV isn’t the best quality but I am hoping someone can recognise the man in the footage, possibly from the way he runs, and provide a name for us to match to the DNA profile.
"The young girl has been through a tremendous ordeal and we need to catch the person responsible to prevent him from doing this to someone else."
PC McGrath can be contacted on 101 or alternatively information can be given anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
