Driver remanded in custody on passenger death charge

A man has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving after one of his passengers was killed in a collision in Bartley Green on Saturday.

Liam Ellis appeared at Birmingham Magistrates Court today (Monday 28 Nov) in connection with the crash on Adams Hill at just before 3am; he was remanded into custody ahead of his next appearance at Birmingham Crown Court on 23 December.

A woman in her 20s − a rear seat passenger in the car which failed to stop for police before crashing into bollards and a parked van − was confirmed dead at the scene. A front seat passenger was taken to hospital with a broken foot.

Ellis, aged 22, of Wiseley Way in Quinton, is also accused of drink driving, causing serious injury by dangerous driving, and driving while disqualified.

The matter has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) as is mandatory.

Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to call police on 101.
