Security operation begins ahead of Conservative Party Conference

A security operation begins this week in Birmingham as West Midlands Police prepare for the Conservative Party Conference on Sunday (28 September).

The operation has been months in the planning and has involved close working with Birmingham City Council, Marketing Birmingham, the International Convention Centre, the Hyatt and many other partners.

Dough! Hapless thieves fail in pizza shop car break caught on camera

Police have issued CCTV footage showing a group of hapless thieves swarming round a car at a take-away pizza shop - and failing in their half-baked efforts to break inside.

The group are caught on camera circling the car on bicycles behind Dominos Pizza in Whitehouse Avenue, Wednesbury, before one tries to gain entry by breaking a rear window.

Extensive police searches continue after man shot in face

Police in Sparkbrook are appealing for witnesses after a man suffered a ‘lucky escape’ in a shooting in Warwick Road last night (29 September).

The man was shot directly in the face while in his car near the junction with Golden Hillock Road at around 10pm, but managed to survive the ordeal.

Six years jail for taxi robber who grabbed Xmas takings

A robber who grabbed a taxi driver by the throat before running off with his Christmas takings takings has been jailed for six years after police linked him to DNA from a glove he left behind in the cab.
 
Christopher Harris was found guilty at Birmingham Crown Court yesterday (28 Sept) for the robbery in Solihull two days before Christmas last year.
 
The court heard how Harris had picked up the cab in Chelmsley Avenue and asked the driver to take him to several supermarkets in Solihull – but when he pulled over in Conway Way, Chelmsley Wood, the 36-year-old grabbed the driver and threatened him into hand over £45 in takings.
