After your medical examination, your specially trained officer (STO) will want a very detailed account from you about what happened. This information is needed so that we can carry out a thorough investigation.
Your evidence is one of the most important parts of the investigation. You may find some of our questions upsetting, but Please remember that we want to do all we can to find the person who attacked you and so have to get as much information from you as we can help us with our investigation.
We will record your interview on video. If you feel tired and need a rest please tell us, there are facilities at the Rowan Centre for this.
If the person who attacked you was not known to you, we may ask you to look at photographs to see if you can identify who it was. We might also ask you to describe the person in great detail so that a likeness of your attacker can be produced.
If someone is arrested you may be asked if you can recognise that person from a group of eight or more people. This will normally be done behind a one-way screen so the people cannot see you.
Sometimes the police will ask you to look at a video film to see if you can recognise your attacker.
