Walk in theft

One of the most common types of theft in the West Midlands is ‘walk in theft’, where people leave valuables unattended and thieves steal them behind their owner’s backs.

Hotspots for walk in theft include bars where people leave mobile phones unattended on tables, libraries where people leave laptops unattended and sports changing rooms where people leave valuables unattended in changing bags.

Advice to help prevent walk in theft is simple:

  • Never leave valuables unattended in a public place
  • When taking a coffee break whilst studying in a library take your laptop with you
  • When using sports changing rooms always put valuables in a locker
  • Take mobile phones, purses and other valuables with you when you go outside a bar to smoke
