Hate crime is any criminal act committed against a person or property that is motivated by the offender's hatred of people because of their gender, race, religion, disability or sexual orientation.
Combating hate crime
West Midlands Police is determined to help people who are suffering as a result of a hate incident. We understand that you may feel nervous about reporting it, but we can help. By working with other agencies and local communities we aim to eliminate hate crimes and encourage people to report them.
Why should hate crime be reported?
We all have a right to live our lives in peace and with dignity at home, at work or in the street. Tackling hate crime is a priority for West Midlands Police. When hate crimes are unreported the offenders are free to commit similar crimes again, either against you or other members of your community. Your information is vital to help the police eliminate hate crimes.

- Complete the True Vision online reporting form - www.report-it.org.uk.
True Vision is a national website which is supported by all police forces in England, Wales and Northern Ireland and can be found at www.report-it.org.uk.
The website provides information for victims and the public about what hate crime is and why it is important to report it when it happens.
It also includes a secure online reporting form that allows victims and witnesses to tell the police about hate crimes. The forms are then automatically sent to the relevant police force.
