Vehicles and Equipment
CMPG currently have a fleet of some 46
vehicles. This consists of a mix of estate cars and 4
X 4 vehicles, as well as two plain video equipped speed
enforcement cars and a purpose built incident command
vehicle for use at fatal collisions and other serious
incidents.
|
 |
| The estate cars are predominantly
Volvo T5s or Vauxhall Omegas. These types of vehicle are
used as they are capable of performing at high speed and
can still carry enough cones, signs and other kit to enable
our officers to deal with most incidents that they encounter.
Most of these vehicles are equipped with Vascar or Police
Pilot time/distance computer units, for speed enforcement
purposes. |
 |
| The 4 x 4 vehicles are either
Range Rovers or Toyota Landcruisers. They have the capability
of carrying large amounts of equipment, perform well in
snow or icy winter conditions and have the ability to tow
large vehicles that have broken down, enabling the carriageway
to be cleared quickly. |
 |
| The two plain video vehicles
are both capable of high speed and are equipped with police
pilot time/distance computers, linked to provide video recording
systems. This enables the driving of offending motorists
to be videoed with their speed clearly displayed on the
recording. |
 |
| The incident command vehicle
is a specially converted Mercedes long wheel base Sprinter
van, to act as a control centre at major incidents. Apart
from a sophisticated radio system, it is also equipped with
fax, computer, video and telephone capabilities, as well
as being able to provide scene light facilities. |
