Pickpockets

Safety advice

Pickpockets love to work in crowded spaces. Follow this simple advice to keep yourself safe when you’re out and about.

Bag or purse theft

  • Look who’s around you, Know who’s behind you, See who’s close to you.
  • Be aware of your surroundings.
  • Never let your valuables leave your sight.
  • Secure your bag properly, if it’s easy for you to get into, it’ll be easy for a thief to get into.
  • Wear a bag that goes across your body to hold your most valuable items.
  • Never leave your bag unattended and be aware of what’s going on around you.
  • Avoid carrying your wallet in your back pocket.
  • When shopping with a pushchair, never leave your bag unattended on the back.

Mobile phone theft

  • Trace lost or stolen phones by activating the tracker app or downloading one from your app store.
  • Note down the unique IMEI number – you will need this number to report a stolen phone. Key *#06# into your mobile and it will display this number.
  • Mark your postcode and door number in UV pen on your phone.
  • To block your phone – contact your network provider or call 08701 123 123.
  • Trace lost or stolen phones by activating their in-built tracker app or by downloading a reputable one from your app store.
