Plea for information and “calm” after Broad Street assault video goes viral

Police in Birmingham are appealing for information after a video – currently circulating on social media – appears to show a man being assaulted outside the Jury’s Inn in Broad Street.

Despite comments on the video saying the assault happened this weekend and that it is religiously motivated, officers are keen to stress the video appears to have been first uploaded at least six months ago and that the motivation for the attack remains unclear.

Inquiry continues into Watford fan attack

A Watford FC fan who was attacked after watching his team play Wolves earlier this month has been moved to a specialist care unit as detectives continue to trace those involved in the assault.

Nic Cruwys was attacked as he walked from Molineux with friends on Saturday 7 March, having watched the Hornets draw 2-2 with Wolves.

Man jailed for sexually exploiting Walsall schoolgirl

A homeless man has been jailed for seven years after admitting grooming a Walsall schoolgirl and inciting her to begin a sexual relationship.

Banti Singh was arrested by police in Bloxwich in September last year after the 14-year-old girl’s family raised concerns with officers about her behaviour and contact she was having with an older man.

Appeal after three-year-old girl injured in taxi collision

Police are appealing for witnesses after a three-year-old girl was in collision with a taxi in Lozells, Birmingham. 

The collision took place in Gerrard Street, Lozells around 8.30pm Sunday 29 March.

A Volkswagen Passat private hire vehicle was in collision with a four-year-old girl. The child was taken to Birmingham Children’s Hospital with serious internal and head injuries and her condition is described as serious but stable.

Woman beaten with baseball bat in car-jacking attempt

Police in Coventry have launched an investigation after a woman was beaten with a baseball bat in an attempted car-jacking. 

The 36-year-old was confronted by a man who demanded the keys to her blue Audi S3 in Lyons Drive, Allesley just before 5.30pm on Saturday 28 March. 

When she refused he hit her repeatedly with the baseball bat to her head and body and ran off leaving her on the floor.

Robber spent stolen cash on pub session − caught after drinkers identify him

A robber threatened a Birmingham hairdresser with a knife before spending the takings he snatched on a drinking session at a nearby pub.

But West Midlands Police detectives identified the attacker as Darren Davies, from Harlech Close in Bartley Green, after speaking to other drinkers in the local pub.

Coffee drinking distraction burglar caught after leaving DNA on cup

A distraction burglar, caught after leaving his DNA behind on a coffee cup, has been jailed for five-and-a-half-years.

Shaun Higgins convinced an 81-year-old resident of a flat on Belgrave Middleway, Balsall Heath, to let him in on 6 October 2014, after pretending to know the man’s carer.

CCTV images released following Darlaston pub attack

Police in Walsall have released clear CCTV images of two men who carried out a vicious attack on another man as he was playing pool inside a Darlaston pub.

The assault took place on Sunday 8 February between 5 and 5.30pm inside the Fiery Holes Pub in Great Bridge Road, Moxley.

Wanted Sandwell burglar back behind bars

A burglar wanted by Sandwell police is now back behind bars after being arrested in Telford this morning (28 March).
 
Daniel Evans, aged 23, was found at an address in the St Georges area at around 8.45am after officers received an anonymous tip-off on his whereabouts.

Jamil Ahmed was walking along Ladypool Road on the evening of 15 December last year when he was set upon by three masked assailants.
